Who would have guessed that this science teacher would be blessed to tour an active volcano while on this mission trip. On our last day in Nica, as it became nicknamed by our team, we toured Mount Masaya in Managua, one of the many volcanoes in this country, which sits on the Cocos tectonic plate. We climbed up a couple hundred yards to overlook inside the crater which was continually emitting large amounts of sulphur dioside gases. (Before entering the park, we were given instructions to climb under the bus in the event of any erupting.) As we climbed even higher, to the precipice to photograph the view, we found a cross sitting atop the peak. Our group prayed, then peered into the deepest visible section of the caldera. Yeah! What a sight. That was a first for me. I felt as if I had the eyes of God as I looked down from heaven into this deep, dark, burning, smoking cavity. And I just loved that it was name Masaya (Messiah!). Yeah!
