The Republic of Nicaragua is the largest country in Central America. It is bordered on the north by Honduras, Costa Rica to the south, the Pacific Ocean to the west and the Caribbean Sea on the east. Population is approx. 6 million and the main language spoken is Spanish. It is referred to as La Tierra de Lagos y Volcanes, which means The Land of Lakes and Volcanoes. Nicaragua is the second poorest country in the Americas (Haiti #1). 48% of the population live below the poverty line. The largest religious denomination is Roman Catholic, followed by Protestantism and then Mormonism. Patron saints are celebrated, especially Santo Domingo (Saint Dominic) in the capital city of Managua. Baseball is the most popular sport, followed by boxing, and soccer is gaining popularity. Elementary education is free and compulsory, yet many rural children are more needed at home and do not attend school.
Because Nicaragua lies at the Caribbean and Cocos tectonic plates, it is in a subduction zone and hosts many active volcanoes as well as many earthquakes occurring there. There are three distinct geographical zones: the Pacific Lowlands, the Amerrique Mountains (north central) and the Mosquito Coast (Atlantic side). Lake Nicaragua is a freshwater lake which is home to some of the world's only freshwater sharks. Dry season is from November to April and temperatures are expected to be 80-90 degrees during Christmastime.

Yea, mighty woman of God. God is going to use you powerfully on this trip.
